Beyond 'staging a play': text, research-based theatre and futures of Arts Education

Abstract

This work interrogates the complex ways artists / researchers / educators work with dramatic texts (plays, ethnodramas, monologues, transcripts etc.) within their practice and with various publics. What does it mean to adapt / direct a text for a new international context as part of socially-engaged doctoral research, and what can be learnt from the process? How does revising and rewriting a play drawing from multiple sources of qualitative / quantitative data shift its meanings and ethical positioning over time, and how might this shape future justice-oriented research?
